[POSTPONED] DGG Code Camp 2021

Join us at Deakin Warrnambool at the end of the T2 intra-trimester break for a weekend of coding and collaboration!

EVENT POSTPONED, DATE TBC: Due to Lockdown #6 and the expected staged easing of restrictions, DGG is very sad to announce that code camp has been postponed. We haven’t chosen a date yet, so if you are a member and have any preferences please let us know!

Beginning Friday night and concluding Sunday lunchtime , the geeks will be heading south for a weekend in Warrnambool. The idea is that we come along with something we want to work on or learn (but if you don’t have anything that’s fine too – we’ll have some ideas for you!) and work together and/or help each other with our coding projects.

We’d also love some members to practice their presenting skills and help us all learn something new by giving a short talk on a tech topic (e.g. 5-15 mins) or delivering a short workshop (e.g. 1hr). Confirmed presentations are listed at the bottom of this page to inspire you!

This is an alcohol-free, members-only event. Attendees are reminded that they are bound by the Deakin Code of Conduct at all times during this event.

Ticket availability

  • Timely techie ticket purchases are available for $150 and determine the size of the unit we book.
  • Late tickets will be available for $160 if there are rooms available after this – late tickets are not guaranteed.
  • This is a members-only (and hence women and non-binary only) event. If you identify as female or non-binary, are a Deakin student, and want to come on our code camp but are not a member – simply join DGG before registering for the camp.

The event will kick off at 5pm Friday and conclude around lunchtime on Sunday (officially 2pm is the latest check-out time).

  • Accommodation (depending on numbers, this will either be a single room or shared room with one other student) including linen and towels
  • Breakfast and snacks
  • Use of a pre-booked classroom on Saturday (all day) and Sunday (morning)

Lunches and dinners – we will likely arrange this as a group (e.g. takeaway deliveries) but attendees are welcome to make their own arrangements

  • Laptop + charger
  • Toiletries
  • Any medication you need
  • An idea of something you’d like to code*, or a project you’d like help with or to work with someone on**

  • Some cash, just in case you need some for meals and ATMs are not close by

* Not mandatory – we’ll have some too!
** For academic integrity reasons, any projects you work on at the camp must NOT be assignments.

  • Train: Catch the Warrnambool V/Line train and disembark at Sherwood Park – this station is at the front of the Warrnambool campus. You should check timetables and fares on the V/Line website, but at the time of writing suitable train times are:

    • Sunday: We understand some attendees will want to spend some time in Warrnambool township after the camp concludes. Trains depart Warrnambool station at 11:50 and 17:32 (and stop at Sherwood Park soon after for those travelling home from the campus).
  • Driving: Parking on campus is available but not guaranteed.
  • If leaving campus for meals, any parking fees are at your own expense. Carpooling with other members is permitted, and Uber also operates in Warrnambool. Some public buses are available but have non-Myki ticketing and limited frequency.
